A meeting of lawyers from different parts of the country convened at Chennai yesterday by popular Front of India decided to form a network of lawyers, to attend cases of human rights violations and cases falsely implicated on minorities. A forum namely “National Lawyers Network” was constituted in the meeting with Advocate I. M. Munshi (Ahmedabad) as president and Advocate Bahar U. Barqi (Delhi) as General Secretary. Advocate K. P.. Mohamed Sherief (Calicut) will act as the National Cooordinator. Other office bearers are Adv. Aneez Ali (Bangalore), Adv. Ahmed Basha (Vijayawada) , Adv. Munavar Syed (Pune) as vice presidents, Adv. P. C. Naushad (Kannur), Adv. Khizer Patel (Aurangabad) , Adv. Shajahan (Madurai) as Secretaries and Adv. Khalid Sheikh (Ahmedabad) as Treasurer.
The meeting was presided over by Adv. I. M. Munshi. Adv. Bahar U. Barqi delivered key note address. Adv. K. P. Mohamed Shereef gave introductory remarks. Popular Front Chairman E. M. Abdul Rahiman addressed the meeting. The meeting was attended by 50 advocates representing different states.
The meeting recommended appropriate amendment to statutes governing criminal procedures, in order to facilitate speedy trial, to make the bail provisions liberal and to provide appropriate compensation for the accused who are acquitted
The meeting urged the central government to table the Liberhan Commission report in the current session of the parliament. The U. P. State Government has to immediately recover the documents pertaining to the Babri Masjid title suite which are reported to be lost.
The meeting demanded immediate release of innocent people imprisoned in Mysore and withdraw the false cases implicated upon them including the cadres and leaders of Popular Front of India.
The Tamil Nadu State Government has to end discrimination on religious grounds in granting remission to prisoners.
Adv. Naushad welcomed the gathering and Adv. Aneez Ali gave vote of thanks.
