Guj riots: SC directs SIT probe into complaint against Modi
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe a complaint that Gujarat CM Narendra Modi, his cabinet colleagues, policemen and senior bureaucrats aided and abetted the killings in the post-Godhra riots of 2002.The complaint was made by Jakia Nasim Ehsan, wife of former Congress MP Ehsan Jafri who was killed in the riots, against Modi and 62 others.“SIT will inquire into the complaint made by the petitioner (Jakia) and file its report within three months,” the two-judge bench said.Coming to Modi’s defence, BJP general secretary Arun Jaitley said, “The SIT has only been asked to probe the Gulbarg Society case again. There is nothing against Modi. No enquiry has named Modi.” Asked whether Modi would resign, Jaitley said the SC order could not be compared to that against Congress leader Jagdish Tytler who opted out of the electoral fray.
