Is 26/11 terrorist Ajmal Amir Qasab a minor?
Ajmal Amir Qasab, the only surviving terrorist of the 26/11 Mumbai attack, claims he was not even 17 when he was arrested. The special court has ordered an enquiry and could determine his age on Tuesday. If he is found to be a minor, Qasab will be tried by a juvenile court and will escape the death sentence. The court ordered an inquiry after both the prosecution and the defence raised questions."Kasab is lying he is a minor. However, in all fairness, we will have to prove it," said Ujjwal Nikam, special public prosecuter. The court has asked experts to conduct medical tests on Qasab - an ossification test that will study his bones, and a dental test to confirm the growth of his wisdom teeth. The prosecution claims, Qasab had told a doctor and the Arthur road jail superintendent that he was 21 years old. Both will now appear as witnesses on Tuesday.Qasab claims, on the day of the attack, he was not even 17 years old but the judge says he is convinced he is not a minor. The result of this inquiry is crucial, as it will determine if this trial continues at this special court or in a juvenile court in which case Qasab will escape the death sentence.
