New Delhi
May 15: The Left parties are upset with the former Karnataka chief minister and JD(S) leader, Mr H.D. Kumaraswamy, for meeting the Congress chief, Mrs Sonia Gandhi.
A senior CPI leader descr-ibed Mr Kumaraswamy as a “man with a roving eye.” Though the signals are clear, the Left continues to pin its hopes on the former prime minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, to put up an united third front.
The CPI general secretary, Mr A.B. Bardhan, who refused to comment on Mr Kumaraswamy, reiterated the Left stand of not extending outside support to the Congress. At the same time, he said the Left would “not allow BJP to take advantage of the situation.”
He said the Congress should worry about keeping the BJP out of power. “Is it the job of the Congress alone to enjoy power and the Left to support it? We must tell the Congress that the 2004 formula will not be repeated in 2009,” Mr Bardhan said.
