Hindutva role in Mysore: Leaders demand strong action

Bangalore: The leaders of secular political parties and human rights activists held the BJP State Government responsible for the communal violence and subsequent police atrocities against innocent people in Mysore. Mr Siddaramaiah, the leader of opposition in state legislative assembly has demanded a judicial enquiry to bring to light the real initiators and perpetrators of violence and also the role of police. K. M. Shareef, General Secretary of Popular Front and other state leaders interacted with various political and community leaders and requested their intervention in bringing peace back to Mysore. Mr Siddaramaiah assured Popular Front delegation that he will press judicial enquiry today in ongoing session of State Assembly.
Mr. H. D. Kumaraswamy, MP and ex Chief Minister (Janata Dal – Secular) told to media persons at Bangalore that RSS cadres and the infighting of BJP are responsible for communal clashes in Mysore. He questioned the allegation by Chief Minister Mr. Yedyurrappa and Home Minister V. S. Acharya that miscreants who entered the city from neighbouring state of Kerala and Tamilnadu are responsible. Then why state police could not prevent them, he asked. The government cannot keep away from its responsibility by putting the blame on certain organizations. He demanded the government administration and police to end discrimination and keep impartiality. Mr Vishwanath who represents Mysore in the Parliament told media persons that he personally knows that Popular Front is not an organization of trouble makers. “I have been observing their leaders and activities for some time they are working for the overall growth and development of the Muslim society, hence they also have public support”. The allegation leveled by Sangh Parivar outfits against Popular Front are baseless, Mr Viswanath told. He alleged that RSS and BJP have planned riots in Mysore.
Meanwhile the state Chief Minister and Home Minister who threatened to ban Popular Front earlier has yesterday diluted their stand. In a press statement issued yesterday by both they told that they have no move to ban Popular Front, but they will only investigate its activities. The state government will also submit a report about the Mysore incidents to Central Home Ministry, they added.
The bail petitions will be moved in Mysore session court today on behalf of those were taken to police custody while participating in ‘Jail Bharo’ agitation. K. M. Shareef, General Secretary Popular Front told that the Freedom Parade on August 15 will be held in Mysore as scheduled earlier. He has communicated the decision to go ahead with Freedom Parade programme to Deputy Commissioner of Mysore Mr. Manivannan. He also stated that state-wide protest will continue till the release of jailed innocents and the arrest of real culprits.
