BJP legislator arrested on Ambedkar agitation


Bharaitya Janata Party (BJP) legislator Manohar Maski was surrendered before the police for his alleged inflammatory speech on Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar, which had triggered widespread protest from members of the Dalith Community in the district.
The surrender of the BJP legislator Manohar Maski, before the Shorapur Police was the result of wide spread of protest from the Dalit community demanding his arrest which also resulted in setting fire of a state-owned KSRTC bus in the outskirts of the city this afternoon.Daliths in Raichur district have called for Raichur Bandh which evoked good response in protest against BJP legislator Maski's alleged remark on Dr Ambedkar at a public meeting recently Yadagir, in Gulbarga district where he had reportedly said that the entire credit for drafting Indian Constitution should not go only to Dr Ambedkar. Enraged with the BJP legislator's statement the Dalith community both in Raichur and Gulbarga have protested and demanded the arrest of Mr Maski for his alleged unsavory remark on Dr Ambedkar.District police said that a KSRTC bus was set on fire during the Bandh call which was however denied by the Bandh organisers.The Shorapur police have registered a case against the BJP legislator for making the alleged inflammatory speech which had hurt the feelings of one community in the society.Meanwhile BJP member have denied the charges of Daliths and said that he had never criticised or shown disrespect to Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar, the champion of oppressed classes in the society. "The agitation against him was unwarranted as he never made any defamatory remark on the architect of the Indian Constitution" he had said to media before surrendering to police.
