NEW DELHI: An Afghan national who was allegedly part of a fake passport and visa racket has been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police. Two other accused in the case were arrested a few days ago.
Anil Dhawan and Pritpal Singh were arrested earlier for allegedly supplying fake visas and passports to those aspiring to go abroad. The accused charged Rs.2 lakh to 5 lakh per client. According to the police, several fake passports in the name of Afghani nationals, a blank visa sticker, 17 fake Indian immigration authorities’ stamps and several Income-Tax return forms were seized from them.
During interrogation, Anil purportedly disclosed that an Afghan national named Amrik Singh used to arrange clients for him. Acting on a tip-off, a team mounted a raid and arrested Amrik in Karol Bagh on Monday. Several passports and incriminating documents were purportedly seized from him.
Amrik told the police that he came to Delhi in 1993. In due course, he allegedly started helping Afghan refugees obtain Indian passports on forged identification documents and then arranging visas for them. The police said Amrik used to arrange clients for Anil and Pritpal for which would get his cut. Preliminary investigations have revealed that Amrik was booked by the Connaught Place police about a decade ago, but the Special Cell is verifying the facts.
