June 14: Critical of the BJP for its inconsistent approach to “Hidutva”, senior RSS ideologue M.G. Vaidya on Sunday suggested to the party that it completely distance itself from the “old line” as it had failed to attract widespread support across the country.
Outlining the BJP’s history since its Jan Sangh days, Mr Vaidya, in his weekly column in the Marathi daily Tarun Bharat, said though the BJP had adopted “Gandhian socialism”, it had failed to shed the image of being a communal party.
After the severe drubbing in the 1984 parliamentary election, the party had once again embarked on Hindutva, the former RSS spokesperson said, adding that while the BJP had come to power, it had failed to sustain its strength.
The party leaders had no patience and almost forgot Hindutva and its basic principles, Mr Vaidya claimed. According to Mr Vaidya, the BJP had failed to convey the real meaning of Hindutva, and the party leadership perhaps thought it was not fit to be used to climb the ladder of power. “Hence the party should now disassociate itself with the ideology, and if it does it will automatically snap its umbilical cord with the Sangh,” he said.
