Iran Urges Muslim World to End Israeli Genocide in Gaza

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Vice-President Hossein Dehqan called on Muslim countries to unite to bring an end to Israel's "genocide" against the people of Gaza.

Following talks with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, President Ahmadinejad' s special envoy said that if "urgent and global measures are not taken by independent and free countries" to end Israel's deadly bombardment of Gaza, "the region, the Muslim world and humanity as a whole will be confronted with a humanitarian catastrophe on a historic scale."

Calling for coordinated political and economic sanctions against Israel, Dehqan said Iran would offer "every support" to combat the Israeli offensive and prevent "a new genocidal stage" in its campaign against the Palestinian people.

Warning that the Muslim world and its leaders have a "historic responsibility" to act, he said Islamic peoples and governments "are capable of injecting dynamism into the Palestinian intifada."

He was employing the Arabic term for uprising used to refer to the two Palestinian rebellions against Israeli occupation launched in 1987 and 2000.

Earlier on the day, the Iranian vice-president called on the Algerian President to encourage Arab states to hold emergency meetings on Israel's onslaught in Gaza.

Dehqan urged for an immediate end to Israel's carnage in Gaza and called for the opening of the city's crossings to provide aid to the victims.

Also during the meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, Dehqan conveyed a letter from the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in which he denounced the "unprecedented Zionist repression and state terrorism committed by the Israeli government" against the Palestinians.

Israel began pouring reservists into the Gaza Strip on Sunday as heavy clashes raged on despite a UN Security Council demand for a ceasefire.

At least 912 Palestinians have been killed since Israel launched its onslaught on December 27 while a number of 4100 have been wounded.
