Local organizations continue support for Palestinian cause
Staff Writer

KUWAIT: Various political parties and the Kuwaiti Union for Laborers took to the streets in support of Gaza and its people under the title "A Salutation from Kuwait to the Legendary Gaza."
The demonstrators held big signs demanding Arab leaders to include Gaza not as a mere item on the agenda but right on top of their agenda. They also slammed the conspicuous silence of the international organizations over the issue when, "they are supposed to protect human rights and bring to justice all war criminals." The demonstrators praised Venezuela and Bolivia for their decisions of severing diplomatic relations with Israel. Many demonstrators held the pictures of the Bolivian and Venezuelan as a sign of their admiration.
MP Dr. Waleed Tabtabaie praised the Palestinian resistance heroes saying that their stance against the brutal Israeli aggression was unmatched and that it certainly superseded the capabilities of the Arab armies way back in 1967. MP Dr. Nasser AlـSane saluted the people of Gaza and their legendary resistance and urged all Arab foreign ministers to adopt a unified stance in coming up with practical solutions "not mere words of condemnations. " He added that the international organizations should not be addressed or appealed to anymore; "not after their rude silence over the Israeli attacks." He urged all those attending the next Monday''s summit, which is scheduled to be held here in Kuwait, to adopt more stringent measures against Israel; specifically mentioning to make oil as a weapon if the international community refused to budge and stop the Israeli atrocities. He also pointed out that the lesser punishment against the Israelis would be through boycotting Western commodities and goods known to support Israel and its atrocities.
MP AlـSane appealed to the U.S. Presidentـelect Barack Obama not to follow the steps of his predecessor who is known for his fervent support to Israel and its policies saying, "The bright side of America needs to be restored in an attempt to do away with the Zionist pressure group and lobbyists who control the American decisionـmakers and (Obama]) needs to bring all those responsible for these atrocities to the International Court of Justice and tried as war criminals."
MP Mussalam AlـBarrak stated that what was happening in Gaza was "a disgrace" and that all those who were resisting the Israeli attack brought dignity and honor to the Arabs "even though they fight with simple arms against the sophisticated Zionist tanks and aircrafts". He said that Venezuela and Bolivia had won the admiration of the Arab masses "when not a single Arab leader dared to venture in doing so."
The Kuwaiti National Party representative Awad AlـDhufairi however reminded people that what was happening in Gaza was not limited to geographic and demographic reasons. "It is quite possible that the same atrocities could also be happen in another Arab country due to the presence of this cancer in the heart of the Arab World." He expressed regret over the fact that when the French and the Americans sought to raise arms in fighting for their liberty and freedom were described as patriots and freedom fighters while when the Palestinians opted to do the very same thing they were internationally branded as terrorists.
Meanwhile, the Kuwaiti donation campaign is continuing unabated since the start of the Israeli attack. Last Saturday, Al Watan TV launched its televised donation campaign entitled "Save Gaza" in which volunteers have divided themselves into two groups; one that deals with queries and phone calls through the Al Watan hotline while the other is present in one of Al Watan''s corridors to receive the donations. The total amount of donation has so far reached 650,000 Kuwaiti dinars.
Leading Kuwaiti activist and columnist Nabeel AlـAwadhi said that he truly appreciates Al Watan''s praiseworthy efforts for extending its donation program by two and a half hours and in an effort to allow more people to call in and donate. He recalled how one person who had no cash to donate had given up an old manuscript of the holy Quran to be auctioned and the proceedings will be donated to Gaza. The manuscript fetched KD 500.
Also, the General Secretary at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohammed AlـSharif in a press release pledged a donation of KD 300,000 for the tragic events in Gaza. "The denotation comes as part of the State of Kuwait''s endeavors to help and aid the victims of the Israeli atrocities in Gaza."
